With 2023 wrapping up, it’s the perfect time to get a little R&R with the ones you hold most dear. We know everyone’s idea of a fun family day is different, so we’ve compiled a list of 6 totally unique (and totally fun) winter activities the whole family will love, located right here in the GTA. Afterall, it’s not the holidays without a little—or big—adventure!

1. The Distillery Winter Village

From holiday decor to tasty treats and delightfully smoky cabin stalls, the Distillery Winter Village truly has everything you need to embrace the season. Plus, this year, marvel at the 56-foot-tall Christmas tree in Trinity Square (the tallest tree ever at The Village). We love that it’s open until January 7th, so you and your family have plenty of time to check it out. Heads up, if you go before 4PM, entry is free!

2. Winterfest at Canada’s Wonderland

Everyone’s fave GTA amusement park is home to WinterFest, an immersive holiday experience for the whole family. See the park transformed into a magical winter wonderland, chock-full of fun activities like ice-skating, more than a dozen live shows, exciting rides, millions of spectacular lights, and hundreds of beautiful Christmas trees throughout the grounds. Get tickets for select days until January 6th.

3. Winter Wonders at the Royal Botanical Gardens

Celebrate the magic of the season at Winter Wonders, a unique and festive outdoor evening experience. You’ll be guided along Hendrie Park’s picturesque pathways adorned with charming lights, interactive installations, and whimsical displays that tell the tales of winter wonders past and present, all set to the rhythm of seasonal music. This event runs until January 7th—plenty of time to soak in the scenery.

4. Skating at The Bentway

No Toronto winter is complete without a bit of skating on the famous Bentway ice trail. Skaters of all ages can glide along the 220-metre, figure-eight skating rink surrounded by stunning light installations inspired by the Aurora Borealis. Find skate rentals and blade sharpening available on-site, and sip on hot chocolate from the concession stand—it’s the perfect day (or night) out.

5. Light Up The Dark

Support local art students and take in a stunning light show at Light Up the Dark, 2023. From December 27th–29th, 6:30–9:00 PM, watch a myriad of colours and lights projected onto the Aga Khan Museum in North York, a mesmerizing show sure to leave you speechless.

6. Cross -Country Skiing in Tommy Thompson Park

One of the best parts of living in the Six is having access to nature activities, even from the center of a metropolis. We highly recommend trying your hand at cross-country skiing on the 10 KM of trails located in Tommy Thompson Park, a staple of the Beaches neighbourhood.

Sure, we’ve found 6 “cool” things to do this winter in the GTA, but we’d love to hear your personal recommendations, too! Get in touch and let us know what your favourite local winter activities are—we can’t wait to discover even more awesome adventures at our doorstep.
